EXP: Looking into animation competitions

Since I had success with making GIFS I've been looking into animation competitions so I can possibly start doing them as part of EXP.
So far I haven't had that much luck, some animators suggested Loop de Loop and 11 Second Club but When i google searched for animation competitions there are only really those two out there. There was also one called "a sense of hope" but that one doesn't announce until January the theme and it asks for a 90 second animated film which I'm not sure is what I'm REALLY after.

I did find a really useful website however that listed different animation festivals so that's definitely something to think about (animation-festivals.com) and possibly get in contact with about doing some small web promotion gifs perhaps?

EXP: Beatrix Potter Resolutions

Here is my final resolution for Beatrix Potter! This was achieved by collaging a range of materials into shapes and sorting them by texture into a picture, scanning them into photoshop and then colouring them in photoshop. I was able to do this far quicker than my About The Author piece because now I know exactly how to change the colours and adjust levels to give it the best possible look. I also chose to gouache a border of carrots just to add into the rabbit theme. It also gives it a border and makes it more postcard-esque.
I submitted it as a postcard design, so I mocked up what it could look like in a frame and what it would look like in a letter being sent to someone!
I was quite pleased with this one and got good feedback from some other people who saw it. I'm not sure whether collaging is going to be something I really focus on that much this year, I like it but I really hate whats out there with collage art already. Maybe that's more of a reason to make it?

EXP: Beatrix Potter Brief

I picked this brief to do over summer because it felt like a good way to get me back into the swing of uni work as I've been work working all over summer I havent had much time to get creative.
For the Beatrix Potter Brief it asked for an illustration based on one of her stories, they were looking for something that was untraditional and told the story in a different way.

I looked into some of the original illustrations just so I got a sense of the story but also what the original illustrations looked like to stay away from that.
My favourite tale from Beatrix Potter is the flopsy bunnies, because at first it seems cute but it has very dark undertones when you think that this aggressive farmer had a rake he was going to attack them with!

It of course has a happy ending but for my illustration I want to illustrate the scene that Mr McGregor first sees the bunnies asleep in compost heap because it has that sense of dread for the bunnies.

Thinking back to what was most effective last year in my work, I think my collage was the most impactful of it all this is because it created an atmosphere which is exactly what I want for this brief.
As I've left it with a week and a half until deadline, I think that going with something I've done before is the best bet. I had a lot of fun with collage so it's something I'll be able to do quickly.
