Persons of Note: Choosing my person

We were all given 3 different names in class to pick from to create a series of stamps, postcards and a poster for.

My three names were Muhammad Ali, Amy Johnson and Sam Cooke.
I looked into each of them and created a mind map before I decided to pick one.
Initially I was really taken by the idea of Amy Johnson as I really enjoy learning about women who paved the way for others. Her life seemed quite interesting and I wanted to pick her before I looked at the others.
When I looked at Sam Cooke I didn't really see much in him that I could illustrated. Although he was one of the forefathers of that kind of music, I found his life quite bland apart from the end, which I also thought would be hard to illustrate. I could have taken on the challenge but I much preferred the other two.
Finally I looked at Muhammad Ali, I expected to be disinterested but the more I looked into him the more I found that I liked and felt strongly about.

After three or four days of looking at both Ali and Johnson videos, I decided to choose Muhammad Ali as my person of note. This was mostly down to the fact I found him inspiring and he made a lot of firsts in the boxing world. Johnson did a lot of firsts too but when I read about Ali I felt stronger about the issues he raised and so I chose him.
