CRIT GROUPS
After time to develop 10 ideas we met up in randomly sorted crit groups and presented our ideas and filled in sheets with our feedback.
In general the feedback for my ideas was positive, the favourite poster ideas were Star Wars, Bruce Willis and Lara Croft. Mostly because all three were original funny ideas. The group felt that the themes sweets, cakes and clothing were filler themes and didn't have as much potential as the others. They felt the themes were varied and more than just objects and that the roughs were good as well.
They agreed that I'd researched into my themes, through experiences (working at a bar, playing games and watching films) and through the internet. They suggested if I got stuck with my work to go the library as an alternate to the internet.
They suggested that I could have done more than just one image per letter of the alphabet so I could have more choice, they also suggested that I try drawing the pictures bigger to see how they'd work on a bigger format (as all my work was really small).
DEVELOPING AND FINAL
After this I went away and decided that Lara Croft was the idea I wanted to progress with, so I brought a new sable paintbrush size 0 and took out a few different colours of ink so I could practice as ink is a fairly new medium for me.

I played around with making a few of the drawings bigger and found that ink was the right medium for this as it helped me make things really gestural and it felt more fluid that drawing with pen and pro markers (see pic above). The next step for me was trying to decide on what colour ink to go with, personally I really liked the red but asked a few of my peers to come and look at my work. They were all insistent that the teal colour is drawn Lara croft in was the better colour and was easier to look at if there was a lot of it.
FINAL
I then started making the final after I had mastered how to add tone to the pictures I was making.
I decided on white A2 just because it seemed to work the best with the colour I chose, looking back on this now I wish I had tried brown paper and black ink as I think that might have looked just as nice.
The poster was really nice when it was finished and I was both pleased and dissatisfied at the same time when I saw it up on the wall.
I was pleased because I think it was really engaging and humorous to look at it, but I was dissatisfied because It was folded, the reason it was folded is because I found it too hard to hold the brush and lean over as I get shaky hands at times. I also wish I had left space for a border as it would have seemed neater if I had done that. Overall I was pleased with how my first piece of work with ink had gone and if I had the chance to make it again I would still want to use that medium, if I had the chance to make it again I think I would take a book out of the library to look at anatomy. Although generally I managed to get the body positions right I think that some of them would be better proportioned if I had researched the human body more.
We all went around and evaluated each other's work so we had something to look at and know what to improver or what worked. I was quite pleased with my comments and agreed with the critical comments.
For aesthetic I got comments such as "love colour and different shades" "colour really pops" "presentation could have been neater" "original"
For concept I got comments "well communicated" "funny idea" "unique concept" "visually interesting"
