Our task for this week was to create a mutant out of ourselves by any means we liked and photograph it.
Whilst we were being told about object as image I drew some initial ideas. I did think about creating various hands and photographing them hovering around me but when I went home I didn't have the means to do that. So i thought about things that I had around the house.
As it had just finished christmas I decided to do a New Years Eve themed mutant with fancy chocolates and champagne.
I aquired an old chocolate box wrapping and turned it over and painted on the chocolates that were in the box, with acrylic and gouache (so it would come out as a matte affect rather than a shiny colour). This was really successful but it was time consuming and if I had to do this again I would maybe try to keep the chocolate wrappers and do something with that (like put sand in the empty wrappers etc).
Afterwards I photographed myself, first I tried to balance it on my face but after a few failed attempts I used string and tied it to my face. Then I took photos until I got one I was pleased with. The champagne glass was a late addition as the earlier photos looked lacking and needed something extra.
Once I had got the photo I wanted, I went through the different saturations until I reached a warmer tone.
Then I decided to add a text over the top just to give it more of a feel. I was quite pleased with the finish result and the only thing that id change is that i wish I had photoshopped my nails red on my other hand (after I had finished I realised I only had one hand painted).
I enjoyed this task as it got me to think out of the box and consider how to put myself in a frame and how much negative space there could be for a picture to be effective and whether or not text was needed.
