Sb1: Line: Mark Making

This week we looked at mark making. We had to do 4 x 3 drawings of our chosen subject but thinking about mark making as we did it and different mediums.
before we started I looked into some of the artists suggested on the slide, one I really liked was Moebius (butdoesitfloat.com). He is a strip artist that specialises in mark making. I really liked his work.

I also looked at Mikkel Sommer (Mikkelsommer.com) and his work is really nice, he uses a lot of textures and mark making in his work and I liked looking at that before I started working on my own work. I started with some markers, I wanted to see what they would look like with hatching. I picked a picture of addidas clothing to draw from just because its a recognisable brand. It did'nt work well although the dots on the end one were quite nice I just didn't feel like it was very nice aesthetically.

I took a book out the library about pageants and decided to draw one of the girls in there. I felt that pageants were heavily influenced by haute couture as there are often outlandish dresses.

I drew the same girl three times using different media each time to capture the tone. I used a HB pencil and tipex on the first, fineliner on the second and ink on the third.
I like how the ink looks the best but as far as mark making goes the fineliner was the easiest to control and to get a solid line from.

I also looked up big people in fashion, one of the most notable is Anna Wintour. I drew her three times using ink each time to try and capture different details. It was similar to the observation task where the more I looked at it the more detail I saw.

My favourite is the one in the middle just because I think she looks the best proportionally.

The last piece I looked at shoes and this is my favourite out of the lot. I really invested time into the patterns and how each shoe looks. It was interesting to draw the same shoe three times next to each other and apply a different technique.

I enjoyed this task more than the previous one because I enjoyed making the details and my work looked like a better quality.
