FMP: World building, Home

The main character will have to have a starting point, so I started to think about just an average village in the mainland that wouldn't need full protection due to it not being in a specialised area (like a forrest or swamp) as I'd want the journey to feel exciting, I'd want to start it from something fairly normal and progress to more interesting towns as I went along.

I started looking into my hometown's buildings, Shrewsbury has over 600 listed buildings mostly tudor but some jacobean. I don't really want metal or overly futuristic buildings because I think it would contrast with the 'magic' element, for the main city I have been thinking about crystal because if you've got wizards and witches then obviously crystal is going to be a bad ass material to use when creating a giant city (think Wizard of Oz here). So looking into tudor houses, any houses that were built without massive technological intervention is key really.

I started to research more into the buildings of Shrewsbury and started to draw them out. I started off with ink because I'm not sure what process I'm going to use for the proposed book yet, I have recently gotten a new laptop so I can potentially do this in digital, however starting in ink is always a good base for me.  I did transition to gouache after I'd drawn a few houses, mostly because (as I discovered in my 503 project last year) coloured ink really isnt that vibrant and you have to go through a fair bit of photoshop tinkering before it comes out vivid, better to just do it in gouache to get that effect.

I didn't really think too much about the tree's for the home town, mostly because if this location IS in the mainland (note to self: I should draw a map of these places) then it won't need protection from elements such as floods or wind.
